Palmetto Primary Care Physicians Re-ups And Expands Contract With Avatara Platform, Which Delivers Complete IT-Infrastructure-as-a-Service

Palmetto, South Carolina’s largest independent specialty medical practice, has halved IT expenses even as it’s grown by 74% over the past six years, thanks to the Avatara Platform.

ST. LOUIS (October 28, 2025) – Palmetto Primary Care Physicians – whose 50 clinical sites make it South Carolina’s largest specialty medical practice – has renewed and expanded its contract with Avatara to handle Palmetto’s entire information technology (IT) environment.

The Avatara Platform provides companies with complete IT infrastructure as a service, significantly minimizing costs and often eliminating an organization’s IT burdens. Additionally, the Avatara Platform seamlessly evolves with the companies’ needs ensuring increased productivity, a higher security posture, and alignment with compliance requirements.

In the six years since Palmetto moved all of its IT and data to the Avatara Platform, the medical organization has reduced its IT expenses by half – even as it grew from 37 to 50 clinical sites – due to the end-to-end, all-inclusive nature of the Avatara Platform. The new contract between Palmetto and Avatara is larger and extends for three years.

"Avatara’s solution is completely turnkey, and I was surprised and pleased when I first learned that this service includes everything for one inclusive monthly fee per user. We’ve been able to reduce our IT expenses by half while eliminating all the headaches of managing our own servers and infrastructure," said Terry Cunningham, CEO of Palmetto Primary Care Physicians. "In the six years we’ve worked with Avatara, we’ve never had an issue with our service, and it's been much easier for us to grow and acquire practices because we don't have to worry about the IT portion of it, which had slowed us down in the past."

Palmetto, which generates approximately $89 million in annual revenue, has saved over $1.3 million annually on IT refresh costs alone while gaining the flexibility to rapidly integrate new acquisitions by being a customer of Avatara Platform. Its plug-and-play capability allows Palmetto's staff to work seamlessly across all 50+ locations, including primary care and specialty clinics, urgent care facilities, surgery centers, diagnostic centers, and physical therapy clinics under the Palmetto Advanced Therapies division, according to Cunningham.

“We’re delighted to be one of the only – if not the only – resources for complete IT as a service, meaning worry-free, off-site IT infrastructure that allows organizations to focus on their core business rather than wrestling with technology challenges," said Robert McCormick, founder and CEO of Avatara. "It’s gratifying that Palmetto, along with many scores of other corporate customers, recognizes the value of having a single, reliable partner that handles their entire IT ecosystem. Rather than managing multiple vendors and piecing together solutions, companies like Palmetto can rely on the Avatara Platform as their complete IT utility."

Avatara onboards a company’s data, applications, business workflows, and users in under 60 days.

Said Cunningham of Palmetto, "The Avatara Platform has helped move us ahead of almost everyone in our field in South Carolina from an IT capabilities perspective, and during COVID-19, we were able to handle 258,000 telemedicine visits because the infrastructure was already built into the platform."
